Mark Stephen C. Sy
Mr. Sy assists on M&A, Competition law and Merger review, Capital Markets, Banking and Finance transactions of the Firm.
During his first year with the Firm, he already worked on notable transactions including the record-breaking Php115 billion bond issuance by the country’s largest universal bank. He was also key a member of the team that handled the closing of the sale of shares in the controller of the sole fixed income exchange in the country between the premiere banking industry association and its several member-UKBs and the stock exchange. Mr. Sy also handled the merger review clearance for the entry of an investor in the Telecommunications Industry with the Philippine Competition Commission.
Most recently, Mr. Sy worked on the acquisition of a publicly-listed company, working hands-on from every step of the transaction starting from due diligence, deal structuring, tender offer until closing early this year, to what is poised to become the largest backdoor listing in the PSE.
Mr. Sy also regularly handles compliance, disclosure, reportorial and corporate governance requirements with PSE and the Securities and Exchange Commission for several public companies, including a mining holding company, a commercial bank and a financing and lending companies.
He was previously an Associate in the Litigation and Dispute Resolution Department of one of the biggest law firms in the country, handling criminal, civil, and commercial litigation.
Mr. Sy obtained his Juris Doctor Degree from the Ateneo de Manila University School of Law, where he graduated with Second Honors and ranked 8th in his graduating class. In 2021, he was one of only 21 law students, selected nationwide, that were awarded a merit-based legal scholarship from the Foundation of Liberty and Prosperity, chaired by former Chief Justice Artemio Panganiban.
Mr. Sy was admitted to the Philippine Bar in 2022 as an exemplary passer.
